Maserati means business. The Trident has revealed a significant increase in production plans, and confirmed that three new models will debut in the next two years.
By 2015, Maserati hopes to have reached its new target volume of up to 50,000 units across the 65 markets in which it currently sells cars, but the GranTurismo and Quattroporte alone aren’t going to pull that weight. The latest word out of Modena is that three new vehicles across three different segments are coming soon. While Maserati kept mum on what the identities of its newest additions, we’re betting they will be the Quattroporte, baby Quattroporte, and the Maserati Kubang SUV. The icing on the cake though, is the announcement of production plans for a new Alfa Romeo, which we assume is the 4C. The target is set at 2500 units a year.
All this won’t be happening at Maserati’s plant in Modena. Acquired by Fiat two years ago, the Grugliasco plant in Italy will be cranking out the next-gen Quattroporte and its smaller four-door sibling, plus parts for the Kubang (the Kubang will be built on the same Michigan assembly line as the Jeep Grand Cherokee) and the 4C. Fiat has reportedly invested 500 million euros (about $660 million) to upgrade the ex-Bertone factory for future production.
